The Music of the Synapses

this tightrope made of sound

Guess the song @ 01:06 pm

[info]kadath introduced me to Bad Translator. It runs things through Google Translate multiple times in assorted languages.

All of these are lyrics from famous songs. Take a stab, why don't you? I ran them through the "ten translations" filter and have not altered the output in any way. Number gets struck out when someone gets it; answers (obviously) in comments.

1) "Risk of poor lighting conditions, and now we are here Entertainment"

2) "Soon, he says, when asked for all their importance, and sent to make us laugh. For those who resist and forest echoes of a new dawn."

3) "Ice Age, the sun will stop the engine and the corn is still a small mistake, but I am worried that London is drowning and I live in the river"

4) "I did not feel any pain, but the company is on the horizon, smoke, software will be only through your lips and waves, but I can say, "I do not think""

5) "The last thing I remember, I ran to the door and began to relax and return to the previous site, said: "In the evening we have arranged for joy. Maybe you need to deal with, but look at Pakistan!"

6) "I'm just a poor boy, you like me (who, from a poor family, who live without this monster is not only children of the poor) is mature and easy to follow, I walk in God's name! No, we will not give up (oh!)"

7) "There must be a way robber clown, chaotic place, and I can not stop"

8) "The company expects corn flakes, and to participate in next Tuesday began a bloody stupid person, a bad boy. Let us face increasing Egemann and I, my people are more or less eggs"

a secret: elves like Queen.

(Link)
wow. 6 is the only one I have a clue on. Since that's based on 'poor boy' and the existence of parenthetical bits and most of the text is so different from the original, I don't feel the least bit bad for not figuring out the others.

Okay, maybe 1. But I'm not sure. [Yes! to 1.]

It seems to put the text through the same languages in the same order, thus getting exactly the same output each time. and now my brain is wandering off into the names of encryption schemes....

Heh. I thought it was random but I guess I was mistaken - I did notice that it always seemed to run through Chinese near the end of the sequence, which strikes me as saving the big guns for last.

London's Calling by the Clash?

6) "I'm just a poor boy, you like me (who, from a poor family, who live without this monster is not only children of the poor) is mature and easy to follow, I walk in God's name! No, we will not give up (oh!)"

Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen?

Okay, I never listened to enough Clash to actually pay attention to the lyrics, which are kind of hard to hear anyway owing to Brit accent and punkrawkishness.

This whole post kind of reminds me of the poem I wrote using bits pulled from mistranslated Arabic ...but of course, far funnier.

1) With the lights out, it's less dangerous / Here we are now, entertain us

3) The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
Cause London is drowning and I, live by the river

6) I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me
(He's just a poor boy, from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity!)

... but that's hard to match exactly

8) Sitting on a cornflake waiting for the van to come
Corporation t-shirts, stupid bloody Tuesday.
You've been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggman

... good Lord.

hee! And I think number 4 is Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd:

There is no pain, you are receding. A distant ship's smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.

#4 is "Comfortably Numb." And all of these are kind of hilarious.

[ETA: I admit, I don't remotely see how you get there from here, so to speak, so maybe it's not. But it sure looks like it should be.]

Damn, those were the ones I got as well.

Certain on Comfortably Numb. Also pretty sure on Hotel California (the "The last thing I remember, I ran to the door" part is a bit of a giveaway), but Pakistan confuses me.

I have no idea where the heck Pakistan came in! I think if you re-ran the translation, it would become apparent which language did that, at least.

That's a real hoot! I was able to get most of them, with my Classic Rawk background: Nirvana, Zeppelin, #3 I can't figure out...Floyd, Eagles, Queen, #7 is a mystery...Beatles.

I'm not bothering to type the song titles, assuming anyone can see that if I know what bands did them, it's pretty obvious I know what songs are being scrangled.

Now to look and see if anyone figured out the two I drew blanks on! Great post.
